A Busy Spring!

I’ve had a busy start to Spring! On February 21st, I attended the Palmetto State Literacy Association Conference. I met lots of educators during an “Authors’ On the Move” luncheon and was on a panel with several other authors. Here I am with Gina Mays and her husband, owners of Gigi’s Library.

March 3rd found me celebrating Read Across America at Lucy S. Herring Elementary School, and the celebration continued on March 7th with a visit to Charles Bell Elementary. The always delightful Rosemary Pugliese of Malaprop’s Bookstore handled book sales.

I switched gears and spoke to an adult audience on March 18th at the Asheville Museum of History. We discussed bringing Wilma Dykeman’s work to a new generation.

Educator, Tonnye Williams Fletcher interviewed me via Zoom on her blog PB Jamz. Tonnye is a music teacher and her blog features picture books about music. We discussed my book, SHE SANG FOR THE MOUNTAINS–The Story of Jean Ritchie, Singer, Songwriter, Activist. I attended the Lexington Book Festival and enjoyed speaking alongside adult author, Kelley Shinn. We had both written books that deal with disability and that made for a poignant discussion. Kelley’s book is called THE WOUNDS THAT BIND US, and if you haven’t read it, you definitely should.

I also attended the North Carolina Reading Association Conference. Here’s a picture of me with my friend, Amy Cherrix.

And to wrap up the month of March, I helped Bobbie Pyron with the launch of her new middle grade novel, OCTOPUS MOON at Malaprop’s Bookstore!
