Countdown to Christmas!
On October 21st, I had a school visit to Carolina Day School here in Asheville. Since the students have a unit on Appalachia as part of their curriculum, we focused on my book, STORY QUILTS–APPALACHIAN WOMEN SPEAK and also talked about local heroine, Wilma Dykeman, the subject of my book, OF WORDS & WATER.

Speaking of Wilma, I stopped by Malaprop’s Bookstore and noticed the paperback copies of my book now have the Outstanding Science Trade Book sticker!

On October 29th, I traveled to Maryville, TN to watch a group of fourth and fifth graders perform a play inspired by my Appalachian books. It was a wonderful experience for me! Each student received a copy of a book in the series, plus worked with a local quilter to make a quilt square. It was a really special moment when their local paper wrote an article about their performances!
